Description:
RESPONSIBILITIES: Under the direction of the Assistant Director of Technical Services, prepares blood components from donor blood according to FDA and AABB guidelines to ensure safe blood products for patient use and further manufacturing. ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: (may include but not limited to) Prepares components according to standard operating procedures. Assists in quality control functions to ensure accurate and reliable work. Follows SCBC/department policies, procedures and guidelines. Assists other members of the team in the lab and Hospital Services and promotes positive customer relations in an effort to achieve internal harmony and repeat business. Willingly performs other duties as assigned. The employee is required to perform assigned daily routines on a timely basis. The employee is expected to work with other departmental employees as a team in order to provide the best quality service to donors and customers.


Qualifications:
Education: High School diploma or GED Experience Previous experience in a health care or laboratory setting. Knowledge and Skill Abilities: Must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills to communicate well with co-workers and SCBC personnel. Must have basic computer skills. Must be able to function autonomously in a laboratory setting. Job requires both initiative and dependability. Must have the physical capacity to perform manual labor while standing 100% of the time with occasional lifting and handling of objects up to sixty (60) pounds. Be able to successfully complete on the job training/orientation within six (6) months. Employee will be regularly required to stand, walk, reach, stoop, kneel, bend, twist, and push/pull. Works a flexible schedule to include weekends and holidays. Works within a laboratory environment with potential exposure to blood borne pathogens. Work may involve repetitive and standardized tasks. Must be able to fractionate blood within specified time periods after collection.
